Education & Talks

What we offer

IndigiGrow provides engaging workshops for preschool and primary school children, focusing on native plants and their cultural significance. We also support schools in creating or enhancing Bush Tucker gardens.

For schools and corporate groups, we offer “Discovering Native Plants & Bush Food” talks and tours at our La Perouse nursery.

Our CEO, Peter Cooley, is available to speak at your organisation, sharing the philosophy behind IndigiGrow. This includes fostering a connection to Country, our efforts to conserve the critically endangered Eastern Suburbs Banksia Scrub, and discussions on bushfoods, sustainability, and biodiversity. These talks can also feature an interactive experience, allowing participants to touch, smell, and taste unique native offerings.

Preschool and Primary School

IndigiGrow offers in school workshops around native plants and their cultural significance.

Typically these are run over two sessions on separate days with the first session being around learning and propagating and the second around planting.

During these workshops, our dedicated staff bring along samples of our native plants and cultural artefacts, actively engaging with the children to create a dynamic and educational experience.

Workshop 1 – Duration is 1.5 hours

  • Teach cultural knowledge around traditional uses of these plants i.e. medicinal uses, tools etc.
  • Touch, smell and taste some Native Bush foods
  • Cultural Artefacts display and a chance for Ochre painting
  • Finish with propagating one of our Native plants into tubestock.

Workshop 2 – Duration is 1.5 hours (Option to pay for extra hour/s on this day)

  • Plant tubestock that the children propagated in workshop 1
  • Arrange and plant additional Native Bush food plants with the children

(This can be condensed into a single day, with additional hours available for the planting aspect).

To ensure optimal interaction, we recommend smaller groups, especially for younger children.

Given the 1.5 hour duration of each workshop, we suggest organising 2 sessions of 45 minutes each, with a maximum of 15 children per class.

We’re flexible and willing to make necessary adjustments to suit your school’s specific needs.

You can also reserve Workshop 1 only and book additional hours if needed at a rate of $150.00 per hour.

You have the option to retain the Native plant tubes on-site for cultivation, subsequently, they can be planted in the Native Bush Tucker Garden during the second workshop. We typically schedule the workshops about 3 weeks apart, allowing sufficient time for the propagated plants to be ready for planting in workshop 2.

Stand alone consultation on creating a bush tucker garden in your school

Our staff can conduct a consultation for your garden space, providing recommendations on suitable plant varieties. Throughout the consultation, we will provide you with recommendations on suitable Native plants for your garden, considering factors such as your soil type and aspect of your garden space.

We can provide a standalone consultation service starting from $200.00 per hour (with a minimum 1 hour) + GST (Travel cost additional if over half an hour travel).

Note if you choose to book a workshop along with a consultation, the consultation cost is discounted.
